I absolutely loved this show! Every single character was so distinct and intense. The presentation itself was fascinating.

The entire 80 minute act really gave me a sense of the hopelessness, desperation, uncertainty and internal conflict within each of the main characters. They all became so very cynical about their situation (For example the reaction to being shot at by American guards - the so called liberators or OKs - felt no different than being shot at by Nazis).

The use of subtitles for translating into English was useful also for when the spoken Polish was too fast for me to catch.

The story juxtaposed the historical Battle of Grunwald with the immediate aftermath of the Second World War and the condition of Poles and Jews who were faced with endless questions of what to do next with their lives and futures. This was an interesting contrast to consider. The references to the monumental Polish victory at Grunwald all through out the existing struggle of the main characters really gave a sense of bewilderment and uncertainty. You really felt how disillusioned the survivors were with the idea of returning to their lost home land. After all how could any of them feel normal anywhere after what they witnessed and survived already? There were some incredibly powerful scenes that took my breath away. Overall I will be digesting the message and imagery of this performance for a while. I am very happy to have seen this show.

Why most of the cultural events happen in Toronto?
The Battle of Grunwald is absolutely a great part of European history. I wish the theatre will visit Montreal sometimes soon!
